Disclaimer:  Joss owns everything!!!  All I own is the story.  Trust me; I
would never put the characters through the Hell they've been subjected to
for so long!  The song is "To Be With You" by Mr. Big
Timeline: The summer after Angel left at the end of season 3
Spoilers: not much really, just general B/A history and some references to
GD2
Synopsis: Angel drags his heavy heart to the Bronze and broods.
Distribution:  If you want it, take it.  Just let me know where it's going!
AN: This idea just came to me, so if it sounds bizarre and overly
optimistic, sorry.  I am working on my other two stories, but my muse was
yelling at me, making me write this down!!!!
Feedback:  PLEASE!!  I live for it!!!
Rating: PG-13, maybe

It was a hot night in Sunnydale, hotter than the typical July day.  Angel
didn't know exactly what possessed him to drive down to his old hometown
that night.  He knew it would be absolute torture to see her at the Bronze
with her friends, knowing he couldn't be with her like that anymore.  But
who was he kidding?  He's the one who walked out on her.  He's the one who
chose to decide her life for her.  Remembering that day in the sewers, the
pain he felt when he told the love of his long, immortal life that he didn't
want to be with her was worse than anything he felt during his centuries in
Hell.  Angel tried to push all of his guilt and his pain aside, as his feet
carried him to the large, noisy club.

Once he opened the doors, the torrents of cigarette smoke and the loud music
attacked his senses.  This was one of the moments he despised his enhanced
hearing abilities.  It just made the music that much more loud and grating.
Nevertheless, the vampire walked into the Bronze and found his usual dark,
shadowy corner to stand in.  Scanning the room, he found her.  His blonde
goddess was sitting at their usual table surrounded by her friends.
Something was different, though.  Maybe it was the rather depressing look on
Buffy's face, or maybe it was the way her friends were acting around her, as
if their mission was to make her comfortable or to make her have fun.  The
guilt attacked him again, as he watched her sullen expressions and slow
movements.  She was sad and upset because of him.  He had no right to be
there, and was certainly not worthy of a moment of her time.  But he missed
her.  The ache inside his chest, where his unbeating heart sat, wouldn't go
away.  Every thought he had, every dream he was able to sleep long enough to
have was about her.  There was no aspect of her that he didn't remember and
cherish as a significant detail about his only love.  Even in her brooding
state, his Slayer was gorgeous.  The perfect lines of her face, although
saddened, looked as smooth and touchable as they always did.  And that's
what he wanted, as he watched her get up and head to the dance floor with
Xander and Willow.  Just to touch her, one more time.  To hold her close and
inhale that scent that was purely Buffy.  Even though he could smell her
from here (being a vampire helped), it wasn't the same as resting his head
in her hair and smelling her unique vanilla perfume and shampoo.  When he
saw her step onto the dance floor with her two best friends, he longed to be
there with out there too.  To be the one that holds her as she sways to the
hypnotic beat of the remade song that the band played on the stage.

//I'm the one who wants to be with you
Deep inside I hope you feel it too
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you

Why be alone when we can be together baby
You can make my life worthwhile
And I can make you start to smile//

Yet through all of his pain and longing, there was hope.  It was buried,
deep down in his soul, but it was there.  He knew that through it all, they
were still soul mates.  He still loved her with all the fibers of his being.
He also knew that she loved him in just the same way.  That much he was
sure of.  If he hadn't already known, Angel figured it out when she
sacrificed her life, her blood to save him only a month and a half ago.  So,
the dark, broody vampire waited.  He waited for that someday that he knew
had to come eventually, when he would be able to hold her close, dance with
her, make love to her.  Although the Powers were cruel, he felt deep in his
soul that when the time was right, he and Buffy would be reunited again, for
good this time.  And it would be the happiest someday he could ever imagine.

If any of the cast members has a web site dedicated to just them, I might include a link to it here.
